About KADYFA

A community-based organization, rooted in Kasese since 2001.

Who we are

Kasese District Youth Focus on AIDS (KADYFA) is a trusted and legally registered community-based organization with more than 20 years of experience delivering health, education, livelihoods and environmental programs to young people across the 42 sub-counties of Kasese District.

KADYFA was founded in 2001 to provide services geared towards sustainable development strategies for the poor and vulnerable communities of Kasese District. We are a member of the Uganda Network of AIDS Service Organisations (UNASO), and have built partnerships with UNICEF, Save the Children and the Uganda AIDS Commission, among others.

Our story

KADYFA began in 2001 in Kasese District, on the slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains in western Uganda. The district borders the Democratic Republic of Congo and covers about 2,724 square kilometres; two national parks, Queen Elizabeth and Rwenzori, make up 57% of it, and lakes George and Edward another 15%.

The district has about 800 villages. According to the District Population Office report of 2017, its population stood at 747,993 and was projected to reach 866,440 by 2023.

KADYFA’s documented work spans HIV/AIDS prevention and care, care and support for orphans and other vulnerable children, vocational skills, adolescent reproductive health, human rights, and agriculture and environmental protection — all carried out with communities, community leaders and young people involved from the design of a project through to its evaluation.

Population figures are from the 2017 District Population Office report as cited by KADYFA.
